Historical materials, 1858-2003.

Description: This collection consists of historical materials either created or collected by John Russell. The volume is the hotel register for the Menomonie House, David Stori, owner and manager, from 1884-1885. Box one contains information compiled by Russell on the Kraft State Bank Robbery in Menomonie, the account book for the Steamship Monitor for 1880, and the minute and account book for the Women of Menomonie Country Club, 1930-1931. The second box consists of original diaries of John Holly Knapp, his son Henry E., and his wife, Vallie. There is also an interview with Myrtle Werth, and an autobiography of Russell's life. The last box largely consists of publications of Russell, but also included are brochures on an Alice in Dairyland and state basketball tournaments held in Wisconsin, the Civil War diary of Julius Hill, business letters of Francis E. Lawrence and a copy of the 1938 Dunn County Farm Journal. A biography of John Russell can be found on the Area Research Center's web site containing articles published by John Russell for over a 40 year period in the Dunn County News.
